Try XP instead. Much better than 98.

If XP won't install, recycle it.

Hi, i would like to give you a few suggections,I would have to agree and disgaree with one of the previous answers, first of all windows 98 is still supported by microsof as the best of my knowledge but rather they support it or not u can still run 98. as matter of fact i just reformatted a hdrive and installed 98 on it. running great .. now i would probably think maybe your cd is damaged and its not being read, or maybe ur cdrom is not working properly . its hard to say first of all i would try a fresh copy of 98 is u have if not try cleaing the disc if no luck yes try xp if the machine can handle xp. recomended 256 mb ram but it can be done on 128 mb ram . honestly i have ran it on as little as 96 mb but it took disabling alot of normal running resources and tweaking it a bit.. if sytem want handle xp yes go with Linux it is a free and a stable operating system uses very little memory, now linux and some of ur drivers may be tricky. but its a start . if all this fails feel free to email me i can possibly pull a few more idieas form my hat but dont junk it yet. I do not beleive in letting a computer beat me.. LOL.. its a challnege i love a challenge..

hope this helps.. Good Luck...

Windows 98 is not longer supported by Microsoft. You could try installing Linux instead because it's free and much more modern.
http://ubuntu.com if it's a newish computer
http://xubunu.com if it's an older computer

If that doesn't work you should prolly get rid of the computer.

U might wanna format ur PC & installed it withe newer version of Windows . I recommend XP . Win 98 is no longer supported by Microsoft & Vista won't be compatible with ur old PC .

i think your Cd-rom can't read CDs anymore, so i think the best way is to sell it and buy a new one. When you go to buy a new window will cost you $150-200, but if you buy a Dell, it's around $500-700 and have everything you need.

seems like your cd rom is not installed properly. try to remove it from the laptop, usually they can be removed from removing one screw and one click. Im pretty sure you dont have this around, but try an external cd player that connects via usb. Otherwise, like they said xp and linux are good options.
