My son was the same way. He had four teeth at Six months. He would bite me so hard I seriously considered giving it up. A couple of things helped. I bought nipple shields (you can google them; they don't cost much) and I would also push him into my breast a bit, just enough for him to pull away for a breath, that made him let go. Then I would not nurse him again for at least 15 minutes. You see, if he is biting you he cannot be nursing so he isn't eating anyway. If you keep doing this he will get hungry enough to nurse and won't bite. He did this for about 2 weeks but the first few days were the worst. After that I could feel the change in his mouth and tell when he was just playing/teething and not sucking. Then I knew when to stop him. Here is a link to the advice I got: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AurHjoiyOrieapXkHRa160jsy6IX?qid=20060822081114AAjcG8f

Aww how sweet ! I have a 4 month old that I nurse also, but he doesnt have any teeth yet!! I dont want to rush it though, I love a gummy smile!! You continue nursing just like you would before. They know how to suck without biting. I have 16 month old twins who could suck a bottle still without using teeth if I let um! If he does bite, you have to teach him no, obviously, which can be hard since he is so young! Just make sure to nudge him so he knows that biting you is not ok, but most people dont have a problem with that at all. A women from my church nurses and her daughter is 15 months and has a mouth full and doesnt bite :) Good luck, and just keep on going!

Everyone else has already said the obvious, that when they bite they are teething, not eating. I will give you this tidbit. They bite the most RIGHT AFTER you give them pain medication - Orajel, Teething Tablets, etc. Just follow everyone else's advice and wait about five minutes after the teething medicine, and you should be fine.

it might sound harsh, but this will work: if he bites you, bring his face into your breast so that he doesn't get air, for about 2 seconds. It wont harm him, and he'll associate biting you with an unpleasant result. It only took about 3 times with my son, then he stopped biting, and I breastfed him untill almost 21 months. Good luck!

I took my kids off my breast when they bit and then put them back on. It took a long time and I received many bites, but it worked eventually. They learn that biting means no more, or at least interrupted 'num nums' (ha ha)
He's just a little guy, give him time and a lot of patience and your perserverance will pay off!

Teeth are a good sign to stop seeking emotional connection with child. Maybe it's time to take the mouth away and seek solice elsewhere.

if he is attached properly he can't bite you. my daughter only bit me when she had finished feeding and was kind of playing, so i just watched her carefully and took her off as soon as she had finished.... if they do manage to bite you, take them off straight away and don't put them on again as they have probably finished...

sometimes it helps to change position a bit and remove him right away when he is finished actually feeding.
