No. There are millions of Americans of Scottish descent who where their kilts to Highland games, Celtic Festivals, weddings, Burns Suppers, etc. with no problem at all. However, if you plan to wear it to work, I'd do some prep work first so everyone knows what to expect. Yes, there may be a few unenlightened idiots out there, but the majority of the country should be well familiar with kilts by now.

It would be unusual to wear one to a party say, or to school. But people seeing you on the street would assume you were part of a band or drill team or something on your way to or from practice or a function. Those guys all wear kilts and they are cool.

That's not gay.....that's cool!
You know, most of the guys at the Highlands Festival wear kilts.
Both my friends husbands are from Scotland and they each wore kilts at their weddings in New York.

Man, if you've got the balls then do it.
Americans are way more narrow minded than Europeans and most of them would. But you would have phone numbers from women to last you a year. Get some color on those legs. A broadsword might put their homophobic minds at ease-a little Braveheart reminder.
Family name Yarborough (yes, related to Cale, the famous race car driver, too) here from Scotland since 1780.

Not at all...it takes balls to wear a kilt. Wearing a kilt tells the world you've got balls and don't need to prove anything.
Guys in kilts rock!!!

Absolutely not. They're very masculine- that you can wear something like that, so different, but still look so hot and manly- nothing gay about it.
WEAR THE KILT AND WE LOVE YOU.

You will get looks, stares and fingers will be pointed at you.
There will be giggling behind your back.
This despicable behavior will be from the ignorant among us.
Personally, I think it's wonderful to celebrate ones heritage but with that comes "being different" to those not in your circle of culture and will result in this unfortunate, shameful behavior.
Just watch out for women with their "UPSKIRT" cameras though.
