A Bimetallic thermometer. A strip of aluminum is bonded to a strip of copper. As the temperature changes, one of the metals expands faster than the other which causes deflection on the scale.

In addition to the thermometer, many household thermostats use bi-metallic coils to open and close a switch as the house temp. changes. (I think NOT the newer, digital thermostats.)
