It's not definite that you'll have a plaster cast put on - That's going to depend upon the surgeon looking at it and the degree of injury. A soft-cast is also a possibility, as is just a brace - again depending upon the injury.

If you do get a cast put on, the length of time depends upon how fast you heal and how bad the injury was- Usually for 6-8 weeks.

Hope this helps!

Most broken bones take 6 to 8 weeks to mend. When I was a child of age 10 I broke my wrist and they put on the old style cast. Most of the time now they put on the velcro and hard case casts. This way the cast can be removed to keep the arm clean. I believe that's what they will do for you.

If they don't put you in a hard cast, i'd ask for one. They put me in just a splint and my bone healed wrong, they then had to rebreak it and they put a cast on, but only for three weeks, and it healed wrong stil. If they had just put one on in the beginning, i would have been saved of all that pain and stuff. The same doctor did that to another girl i know too, so i'd ask for a hard cast just to be safe.

Depending on whether you will need surgery like me, they may put you back in the splint until surgery then hard cast for several (3-5) weeks. good luck!
