Everyone believes the hype machine about guys like Rickie Weeks, Prince Fielder, Ben Sheets and all of the other vastly overrated Brewers. They will be lucky to finish higher than 3rd in the NL Central this season.

The reason that the Brewers are rated high going into the season is that they have great potential as a team. Once the season starts, they usually have to deal with things such as injuries and then they don't play up to their potential. Its just that on paper they have the makings of a very good team, but the team must play the games and that's what gets them into trouble. I also think they could use a manager that can get the most out of each player. Someone experienced like Jim Leyland would have a tremendous effect.

They don't. The Brewers just seem to "underperform".
Milwaukee has one of the best young pitching staffs in the Major Leagues, with Sheets, Capuano, and Bush possibly the best trio in the NL.
The Brewers, however, lack offense, other than Prince Fielder and Bill Hall. With the loss of Carlos Lee to the Astros, the Brewers will need a few guys to step up and have breakout seasons for them to compete against the Cardinals in the NL Central.

The Brewers have a good team on paper, but they always disappoint. The problem starts with Sheets, who is a top 5 talent who was never panned out and can't stay healthy. They have some decent young talent, but rarely does that turn into a contender. They have a lot of players who could or should be stars, but can't live up tp the hype. Plus they are in a fairly tough division.

I wouldn't mistake over-rating a team with just old-fashioned hope and enthusiasm. That team has been near the top just to fall back down over the coarse of a long, long reg season. The fans in Mil. deserve a good competive season from their ball club
