In the winter Orion is seen in the southeastern part of the sky at sunset about half way between the horizon and the zenith (the point directly above you). It never rises above the horizon during the spring and summer nights so at sunset during those seasons it is below the horizon. It reappears again on the southeastern horizon during the fall months at sunset.

It is a winter constellation. In winter it rises early and stays up all night. In spring it is high at sunset and sets by midnight. In summer it is behind the Sun and not visible. In fall it rises very late and is high at dawn.
