I've heard a lot about the number 23 lately. What is the big deal? Will the world really end on 12-23-12?

I myself am not obsessed with the number, nor am I worried the world is about to end - I'm more or less curious what is going on lately - the number is everywhere!

23 is just a number, 666 is a mistranslation. The original actually said 616, so that's blown that one.

Will the world end on 12-23-12. I very much doubt it because only the Americans write the date that way UK = 23 12 12.

As an indicator of this variation, 'Whitaker Almanac' reports that the Gregorian year 2000 AD/CE corresponds, respectively with:

1. Year 5101 in the Kaliyuga calendar;
2. Year 2544 in the Buddha Nirvana calendar;
3. Year 2057 in the Bikram Samvat calendar;
4. Year 1922 in the Saka calendar;
5. Year 1921 (shown in terms of 5-yearly cycles) of the Vedanga Jyotisa calendar;
6. Year 1407 in the Bengali calendar;
7. Year 1176 in the Kolla Varsham calendar.

which does that one in.

Allen Iverson was already obsessed with the number 3 before he got into the NBA, so when he saw the chance to make it into the NBA he was very eager to be part of the NBA project. In fact, he's so obsessed that his NBA number is 3. But he is not alone; the number 3 has puzzled and captivated many babies across the globe for many years. Just type number 3 or 3 iverson in your browsers and see what people have to say about it. But be wary, while some sites glorify the magic of the number 3 (Alexander the Great didn't cut the Gordian Knot at age 3, Adam and Eve have at least 3 letters in their names), others reveal the dark curse of it(3/0 is not dividable, the Mayans believe the world will end on December 23, 2012-if u add the last 2 numbers it is 3). Oh man the number 3 is CRAZY! Who agrees with me???

Sorry, but every other answer is probably wrong.
The big deal is that 23 IS 666.
This Number (23) plays a HUGE part in the horror film (called "23") because the characters see a book (probably "of the devil") which is called "The Number 23" because
2/3 (or two divided by three) equals .666!

(but of course it's stupid because the number is not like 2/3 or anything, just a clever trick by the horror film industry)

I always thought it was 12/22/12. That's when the Mayan calendar ends. I think all the "interest" in the number 23 has been started by the movie of the same name.

Well, the number is here because Yahoo is selling out and letting movie production companies ask questions as if they were real.

The issue is that a bunch of events that already happened in some way someone found an assosciation to #23. Its kinda how people put relevance to Notrudomus predicting the future, but we never realize it until it happens. Otherwise, they make the event fit the prediction, instead of the other way around.

I was looking at numbers and it all went to 23. I think numbers all revolve around 23.

The only reason I'm obsessed with 23 is because I'm turning 23 on February 23rd!!! Wooohooo!!!!

From what I can gather it's a movie and the hype is part of a marketing scheme to generate interest in the movie so as to increase box office sales.

I don't place any importance in numerology whatsoever, and frankly I'm a bit frightened that many people still do in the year 2007.
