I have a hp printer and it was working fine about a week ago, until now. It will still print, but VERY slowly. Its like its taking a long time to think about what its doing. It also wont print in bold. Whats wrong? And can I fix it?

My first guess would be that your printer is working fine but some changed the print quality. In other words, its been set to print on high quality. If you want to save ink, keep a few things in mind, you should check the print properties for everything you print. I.E. if you print text, you may find draft quality completely adequate and using it will save lots of ink. If you are printing color images, you may want to set the quality higher. Some printers will default to good quality and they will do this for every item you want to print. Some printers will stick to the last setting you enabled in properties. Most printer mfgs however, at least default to good knowing that you will be back in the store for a cartridge alot quicker! When you bought the printer, you didnt buy the printer, you bought the cartridges!

My HP printer was doing the same. I ve just got it back to normal after interrupting it during a print job. It was slowly printing and I opened up the cover, removed the ink cartridges and then put them back in and closed the cover. I got a message about the printer cartridge carriage being jammed, but it wasn t. It was all the way off to the side when I removed the ink cartridges. I then unplugged the printer from the wall outlet, waited about 30 seconds and then plugged it back into the wall. I tested out a print job (single page, black and white, fast draft) and things were running smoothly again.

I've gone through 3 hp printers in 3 years. They seem to start dying after a year. Needless to say, I don't buy hp printers any more.

Try reinstalling the printer drivers. this might help.
Also, call hp and see if that particular model has any common issues.

Is it a wireless networkin printer? If it is then try connecting a usb cable to it. If it's a direct connection. Try replacing the cable. check your ink left in the printer. try dusting out the printer? change the printer quality to low or med other than high. do this by going into the document you want to print. the go File>print>printer settings>and the change the quality inside that printer option window. If you've had this printer for a long time and you use it a lot. I suggest getting a new one perferrably laser.
