Since when do single black mothers get a free ride through college?

There aren't any actually all-black colleges. There are many HBCUs (Historically Black Colleges and Universities), but none of these schools have an all-black population. My mother went to Hampton University (a known HBCU) more than 30 years ago and graduated with several white peers.

Blacks have been historically disadvantaged, but the majority of those that get the greatest help financially are those living in lower income areas. I'm in college now and have scholarships, but none of them were restricted to minorities. I grew up in a middle-class home and really got no special consideration in applying for colleges and financial aid.

To help advance the black community, of course. These were created a long time ago when blacks were facing lots of racism and inequality. And no one says a non-black can't attend a historically black college or university. Why don't you volunteer to be the white MLK? I'm sure you'd do a stellar job.

whites are allowed in black only schools, and there seriously are college funds for EVERYONE out there. You just have to look around. Just curious though, how do you know that all whites have better GPAs than blacks who are getting accepted? I don't think it's wise to make such general views and to group all people together. Not everyone agrees with affirmative action. I personally think we should all be recognized equally, but that's wishful thinking.

Uh, I have a lower GPA than my boyfriend who is latino, and I got into college before him when we applied at the same time. Your question is biased and you have no information to back it up.

Given this has been said to happen some times due to laws we have, you are not backing up your statements with any coherent solid evidence. Without evidence your comments are racialy motivated and ignorant. Cite information for an intelligent debate.

It is someone's attempt to equalize the playing field becuase black people have been treated unfairly in the past.

Most are treated fairly now, but some still are not.

I think affirmative action should end. When Jeb Bush brought it up in Florida, the NAACP picketted his offices.

Oh well. Let the reverse discrimination continue until we can prove we treat people equal. Some bad apples in the white community are spoiling it for us non-racists.

who told you minorities get into schools before whites and if they do it was their grades..even though colleges like diversity grades average overall...

who told you a free ride goes to any single mother the school doesn't hand out anything special programs do and your color isn't important...

and we have black schools but whites get in for free or half of what
blacks pay for tuition...

and your lying local religious and cultural centers give out funds for college for jews, asians, native americans, everyone so cut it

Because people have fooled themselves into thinking that affirmative action is fair and isn't reverse racism at all.

By the way, single black mothers don't get a free ride. Most single mothers regardless of race get a free ride through college (community colleges, usually. Argue all you want but it's true - my mother did and I've known other single mothers who get their schooling paid for because they got knocked up at an inopportune time).

It's not just black people either. You'll get grants and special consideration if you're Hispanic, etc. - basically anything but white.

People say it's "payback". It's not. It's just aggravating the situation, promoting more racism on both sides, and generally making the situation even worse. No matter how you spin it, it's not fair. Anything thinking it's fair is just fooling themselves.
