You probably have Hydrolic Lifters and usually when you rebuild an engine you should prime the lifters before you install them. But since they are not primed with oil already just turn the engine over for about 15 seconds with the battery and unplug your spark plugs so the engine wont start up(because if it does start and the lifters arent primed then they could wear). Then they should be nice and primed. Good Luck.

When you turn the switch and the car rolls over the oil pump starts to pump oil before ignition takes place. The hydraulic lifters are at maximum oil system pressure with in 2 - 3 seconds after start up. With the valve covers off oil should liberally run out of the push rods within 5 seconds after start up. If not oil pressure is lacking either being blocked in the lifter oil galleries or the oil pump may be gong bad or clearances are opening op elsewhere in the motor

within seconds and if you say some did then i am assuming that you have a couple that arent oiling and that can be,1) clogged push rods,2) collapsed lifters ! Good Luck

the oil pump should pump up oil to lubricate the lifters within a few seconds after starting the engine....

no sure I understand your question? hydraulic lifters don't (recover) they are pumped up using the oil pressure from the pump.

when oil exits the push rods, it lubricates the rockers valve keepers, springs, etc. before finding a hole in the head to return to the oil pan.
