it definitely was Wendel Clark, now I believe Lindros, Hasek, and Tucker fit the bill.

You mean an openly gay hockey player, as I'm sure there are players in the league who are gay; you just don't know. And I have no love for Sean Avery but until he comes out or is seen in public getting all kissy-kissy with a guy, I'm not going to play into the gay rumors. It doesn't matter anyway; as long as 1) the guy can play the game and 2) whatever he does is with other consenting adults, I really don't give a damn if a guy is gay or straight. BQ: I could not care less about what Don Cherry thinks.

None. Unfortunately whatever gay players there are in the NHL feel like they need to stay in the closet. This article is an interview by the OutSports site with one of them: http://outsports.com/entertainment/20050218gumbybookexcerpt.htm

Incidentally, the biographical details given about the player in the article suggest that he could be Dan Boyle of the Tampa Bay Lightning. He's a Canadian who went to college in the US and won a Stanley Cup. That narrows the list because Canadians usually go the junior hockey route.

However, the player remains anonymous in the article.

There are no openly Gay players, but there's no rule against it, and there probalby have been gay players.

And it does matter when society refuses to treat them as equal citizens- If a star player in the NHL came out as gay, I think it would help eliminate a lot of stereotypes. Especially if he's known to be a tough defenseman.

There are no openly gay players currently playing in any of the four major North American sports (NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL). There have been players from those sports who have come out after their retirement, like John Amaechi.
There are some openly lesbian players in the WNBA, as well as openly gay people in individual sports like figure skating and tennis. I've heard of openly gay players in team sports of other countries, like rugby or team handball. As far as soccer, I've never heard of anyone but I don't follow soccer at all.

Stephane Richer of the Montreal Canadians and later the New Jersey Devils was reported to be gay.

He was not openly gay but the word was that he was gay and that was one of the reasons he was traded.

There are no hockey players that are openly gay. However, I did hear some rumors about some hockey players. I will not give out the name. It shouldnt matter if they are gay or not.

I don't think there is any player that is openly gay. Most of the players you admits that they are gay said it after they retired.

I think Keith Tkachuk of the St. Louis Blues. He has something like 82 penalty minutes and at least 60 of those are for holding.

The whole montreal franchise since the beggining of time from the workers who built their arenas to the score board operators to the referees who used to train with them in the off season and give them all the garbage calls in the 60s-70s and 80s
