My friend's son has a Yamaha 650 V-Star (lives in Denton) and he owns an 1100 V-Star. He's ridden both and said the 650 just lacks a little of the power that the 1100 has, but that it was a great road bike. The 650 will easily get you there and back with no problem. Have a great time!

No problem!! But why not do like most of the other guys that go to Sturgis do. Put the bike on a trailer and pull it there in the lap of luxury. Take it off at the Tilford rest area and ride the last 10 miles in like the rest of the bikers.
Make sure you get he T-Shirt " I rode my motorcycle to the Sturgis trailer rally!"
I live 20 miles from Sturgis and would not waste my time going up there, and yes I do ride.

Absolutely! Just make sure the bike is past the break in period, and make sure you're ready for an eleven hundred mile trip! I've been on a few myself as both a passenger and a driver, and it's a lot more tiring than you think! Your body can sure take a beating! One piece of advice: MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A WINDSHIELD on your bike! It will make your trip a lot easier! See you there! Drive safe and enjoy the ride!

Oh, hail, yeah.
A woman friend rode a VN 500 Vulcan from Corpus Christi to Sturgis and into northern Michigan, and back. The bike was a few years old when she did it.

Buy the 1100 bike instead of the 650. It would be more expensive buying the engine than the whole bike.

You might want to put a good seat on it but the bike can handle the ride.

Sure, why not. It's only a couple days riding.
Since it's new, your gonna want to ride it enough to get past it's first checkup/oil change/service. Plenty of time for that between then and now.
