former husband
My aunt was referred to in her ex husbands obit as "the mother of his children" so "the father of her children" is another option.

That's a tricky one. usually he is not referred to at all, however, in this day of fairly loose etiquette, I would say do what feels right to you, especially of they enjoy a close friendship and it means something to the children.
You might mention the relationship as it exists through the children, such as "Survived by Jack Doe, father of John and Jane Doe". Or mention the duration of the marriage, especially if she is remarried, "Married to John Smith from 1967 to 1983 and he survives".
The important thing, I think, is not to confuse people, not to let anyone think they were married at the time of her death.
I think it is very decent and very loving to remember an ex in her obituary. So many forget that it often hurts an ex very much at the time of ones death. He loved her too, possibly very much at one time. It can be very appropriate to recognize that, under the proper circumstances, especially where children came from the marriage and when you want an accurate picture of a complete life to be seen. It's also an opportunity for others to offer condolences to the ex spouse.

Is it the ex husband's obituary or someone Else's. I don't think you have to refer to him at all. If you want to refer to him, then just say "survived by former husband, -----.

I haven't seen "divorce" mentioned in an obituary. I've seen it referred to by saying "the late Gary Jessip leaves in our care Mary Jessip and sons Ben and Joseph, sister Anna Jones..."

I would guess he wouldn't be referred to as "husband" if he is divorced.
