U.S. SMALL BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION 8(a) BUSINESS PLAN SBA: http://www.sba.gov/sbaforms/sba1010c.pdf

The business plan form is a systematic assessment of the different aspects of the business. Divide the plan into three distinct parts: the business section, the financial data and the supporting documents. The first part details the business activity, the market conditions, the contesting claims, the management and personnel responsible for the running of the business and the funds necessary for launching and continuing the business operations. Give a complete description of the intended business activity, the size of the market you wish to serve and your expected market share. Define your business type: will you be a retail merchant, manufacturer, wholesaler or a service provider. Your business concern could be a sole proprietorship, partnership or corporation. Name the key management and personnel necessary and available for your chosen activity. List the salient features of your present or desired business location. An essential component of the business plan is a comprehensive competition and feasibility study. Study your nearest competitors, their business strategy and its results. Is their market share steady, is it increasing or decreasing? This section will also dwell on the required funds, both the application and expected effect of the loan or investment. The business plan form will take a definite shape with the compilation of the financial data. This crucial section will discuss not just the sources and application of funding but also give the projected balance sheet and break-even analysis. It will contain the income statements and cash flow projections for three years. The existing businesses will include the profit and loss statements, balance sheets and tax returns for the past three years. Complete your plan by attaching the supporting documents like personal resume and financial statements, credit reports, letters of intent, contract and other legal papers. The business plan form will outline the shape your business plan should take to make it a credible investment proposal and operational reference.

You are already half way there, because you have defined your dream, and you seem to have focused attention - the two things for success. Start with "Starting a business" brochures that you can get from most banks, such as Bank of America. First: Answer these 3 questions: 1. What am I good at? 2. What do I LIKE to do? 3. Where is there a need for this? Second: Yes, get a good book or two from the business section of a large bookstore on starting a business. This will help you develop a business plan, assess the competition, and provide all the legal details. Third: Develop references. Work for someone else for a while to get to know the business you are interested in, develop some skills there, and get the lay of the land so to speak. Then refine your business plan, and use your contacts as references. In starting a business these contacts, networks, and references will be invaluable. Finally, be careful about the "be your own boss" idea. I had my own business for 30 years, and each client or contract becomes your "boss" - the person who pays you is always your boss, so working your own business with contracts you will have not one but MANY bosses.

Would help if we knew what your business is going to be and to whom you need to send the proposal to..... If it is a lending facility you need a service plan and sometimes those require you to keep them posted on how your business is doing. (pain) Or are you writing a paper and you need to know how to start it?
