As Cyn said, I personally think the most well known red light district is in Kabukicho in Shinjuku, Tokyo.
You can find all sorts of stuff from Gay bars to couple cafes.

Although I personally think that there are much better ways to spend your time in Japan, the largest red light district is Tobita.

Kabukicho is one of the most popular red light districts in Tokyo, Japan.
And in Tokyo, Roppongi has many clubs and pubs too.

there are tons of places that are red light districts... there will be signs warning kids and parents about the area.
