Multiply 3/4 by 3/3 and 2/3 by 4/4 in order to get a common denominator.

When you add fractions, you must convert them to have a common denominator (the numbers on the botton of the fraction must be the same). In this case you convert the bottom number to 12 (since this is the lowest number that is divisible by both 3 and 4). So 3/4 becomes 9/12 (if you multiple the bottom by 3 to get 12 then you must do the same to the top, and you get 9). 3/4 and 9/12 is actually the same number, just written differently. And 2/3 becomes 8/12 (multiple the bottom by 4 to get 12 on the bottom and do the same to the top to get 8). Now since your two numbers have the same denominator, you can add the top numbers together, but keep the bottom the same. So you add 9 to 8 and you get 17, and your denominator stays 12 giving you 17/12 (or 1 and 5/12). Got it?
If you multiply fractions you don't have to convert to common denominators. You simply mulitply the top numbers and then multiply the bottom numbers too.

you make the denominator equal. so let's say 12. then you multiply what it would take you to get twelve on the bottom of each problem to the top. that would give you 9/12 and 8/12 (3 x 4) and (4 x 3). Then you add the two numerators together. which will give you 17/12. then you turn that into a whole and a fraction. your answer will be 1 and 5/12.

When you add fractions with different denominators, it can be kind of tricky, because there are more steps to it.
1. Find LCM 4 and 3=12
2. FInd equivilant fractions, 9/12 and 8/12
3. Add the numerators 9+8/12=17/12
(Note: You could leave it like this but you'll get more marks if you convert into a mixed number)
4. 17/12= 1 5/12

first you multiply 4 by 3 and then you multiply 3 by 3 and 2 by four
so it is 9/12 + 8/12 and then add 9 and 8 so the answer is, 17/12 or 1 and 5/12

Find the Lowest Common Denomenator......which is 12
in 3/4 the 4 goes into 12 .....3 times so 3x3=9 and 4x3=12
9/12
in 2/3 the 3 goes into 12.....4 times so 2x4=8 and 3x4=12
8/12
now 9/12 + 8/12 = 17/12 which is 1 5/12

first of all find a common denomonater of 3 and 4 = 12 now you multiply the denomonator by 3 so u have to multiply the top by 3 ur fraction now being 9/12, ur second being 8/12. ur problem being 9/12+8/12+17/12? WRONG. rename, 12 goes into 17 1 time so ur answer is 1 5/12

you have to find a commom deominator. thats the bottom number: 4 and 3 both go into 12 so that the commom denominator for 3/4 and 2/3. now you multiply the numerator, top number, by what you multiplied the denominator to get 12. now you have two like fractions: 9/12 and 8/12. no you can add those together and you get 17/12. if you reduce that you get 1 5/12.
hope that helped.
