I feel 8th grade should not have a prom. Why have a child exposed to adult interactions?
Keep it fairly conservative knee length, not too revealing...tho many of the girls will wear off the shoulder type dresses. It is still winter however so being covered should not be tough to enforce without her even realizing you are doing so... and keep your eye on her. Many young girls are having sex today at age 12. Keep her as innocent as possible, along with being informed and not 'stupid' about whats going on. Little make up.
Remind her she is still a young girl, should enjoy being a girl as pretty soon she will be a lady. Could you maybe let her know she will have a much fancier dress at the high school prom?...
...as long as she keeps her grades up. (might as well start now- 3 years is not that far away)

I remember my 8th grade prom, trust me looking back now it wasn't the hubbub it was made into. I advise not to wear a true prom dress because that is simply too much. A really nice summer dress would be nice or anything else that's not too dressy. Too dressy is a dress that's clearly a prom dress or like a bride maid's dress. A dressy dress will get in the way and be a drag the whole night. I remember the two girls who wore prom dresses at my dance were overdressed and really stuck out at my dance. Definitely a don't. Your daughter should find something that really flatters her, she's comfortable in and isn't informal or edgy (a.k.a. showing too much skin). Wear something a step above a normal dance. Hope I helped you a little, good luck to you both!

I'm in 11th grade and in my 8th grade prom, it wasn't very romantic. We got a DJ that put a lot "jump up and down" music and most girls were upset because their dresses would get in the way. If it's one of those slow dance proms, I'd say you should a fun-looking dress because black/white dresses are just way too classy and if your daughter looks too good, who knows what will happen :x

You mean an 8th grade graduation dress ? :P Im in 8th grade too.
Well im getting a simple black dress- around knee lengh. Not too expensive.
Why dont you ask your daughter what she would like?
Dont let her use too much make up too. Its not that big of a deal.

I believe 8th grade prom to be tedious. However it is a social event and your daughter should go. I would make her get something appropiate for her age. Something classy and elegant but not over the edge sexy or formal.

At my 8th grade grad I wore a sphegetti strap black bubble dress. Most girls there had a dress at the longest an inch above the knee...not too classy but not too casual.

Oh yeah...we have that here too,last year..8th grade promotion,and then a dance,kinda like prom...I wouldn't wear something too fancy,I mean,some people were dressed in really uncomfertable,overdressy dresses. Just something simple,maybe kneelength,and accessorize =]

Im in grade 11 and i would suggest your daughter to wear something fun, not too elegant.
Summer dresses that are a bit prom-ish would be nice.
A dress like Rihanna's Sos Video would be nice. =)
Halter neck dresses are a good choice too.

That in knee length would be great.

At our 8th grade prom all the girls spent like 400 dollars and they got their parents to chip in for a limo... I think that that's over doing it a bit, though.
I think that a dress from a store like Debs would be good, because they're formal, but not over-dressy, and they aren't too expensive.

hmm that is an interesting concept...but as for a dress there are many that would fit a 14 year old and wouldnt be revealing (as long as she isnt particularly small) stick with short dresses, they will probably fit her better than the gown type
