I do not want to offend a sweet elderly person but I cannot continue to eat her cooking, It is a "heart-attack-on-a-plate."
The amount of fat in her cooking is way beyond what any human should consume.

Say " mom I love your cooking, but my health is getting bad enjoying it so much, can you kinda make me something special that's just as good but not so bad for me, you know I have to watch what I eat these days"?

Just tell her that you have been placed on a very strict diet by your doctor because of ________ (your illness/heath issue here).

Of course you realize that fat without the carbs is not unhealthy but I guess them donuts are too good to pass up. If the woman has some age on her and has been eating her own cooking for 50 or 60 years maybe it isn't that bad after all. Nutritionists come out with "fad" diets and what we should eat every year. I'm beginning to believe that, just like people are different, so are healthy diets.

How often do you eat there? one meal a week? is this really going to give you a heart attack? Maybe take smaller portions and push back on the sweets. She raised your wife on her cooking and how is her health? Sure I know all the changes they keep bringing up about what we eat, but like one said tomorrow they will be saying "oh wait that is good in some of your diet, you'll need some"......so try it once a week.....it won't kill you
