apparently she was heavily gravid and black, then one morning she was all peachy with tiny dots but they werent as black as the other day, did she give birth then ate her babies? I have one other male and female in the tank, she is nice and plump ready to burst but she doesnt display any of the symptoms some websites say she will when she's ready to give birth, she's as active as ever! this is my first time with guppies but i did my research, i didnt find any fry in my filter, ther other fish eat their flake food like crazy, but still no babies. how do you know when your guppy is ready to have babies? and how can you tell when they had babies and have eaten them or when they have a miscarriage. thanks for your time..

How long do you think she has been gravid, it may just be too soon. Also, if they get stressed they are capable of absorbing their fry instead of having them. I was always surprised by when mine popped their fry out. I always guessed wrong on when she would have them.
Don't worry too much though, guppies reproduce faster than any other living species, I finally took all of mine to my local fish store. I think they are gorgeous, but I ran out of space for all of them, :-).

It's not all that easy to tell when exactly she will have her babies. As I'm sure you have read in your research she may hide more and may look kind of "squared off" around her belly, but these are maybes and mights... they don't always apply. Your best bet is to place her in a tank of her own several days before you think she might have the babies so you wouldn't have any surprises.
A miscarriage will leave dead babies in the tank. The other fish might eat them, but the female would be smaller. If she had the babies and ate them, she will still be quite a bit smaller than before.
Hope this helps

I have fancy guppies. I got one on thanksgiving, and it had babies two days later. Usually female guppies will get "boxy" in the belly, you can see little black dots, and sometimes other fish will go after her tummy. (Or at least mine did). If you notice these symptoms, put her in a little seperate tank. (I got a little plastic one with a lid, its about 3 dollars at the store.) Usually the momma will eat her babies, but not a LOT of them. Keep in mind, that guppies can have 25 babies at a time. Keep the momma in the tank for about 2 days, and then put her back in the normal tank. This keeps control over the production of the fish, because fish they will over populate and take over your tank. Trust me, a female guppy will reproduce every 28 days, guaranteed! She prolly didnt have a miscarraige, she and the other fish prolly ate the babies.
By the way, guppies have live births, the DONT lay eggs. Any fish store will tell you that, and ive seen it first hand.

I'm sorry to say that most likely, she and the other guppies in your tank, probably did eat them. Do you have plants in your tank, or somewhere for the babies to hide when they're born? If not, it's a good idea to get some. Also, a baby fish nursery is good. If you notice baby fish in the plants, try to scoop them out and put them in the nursery until they're old enough to be in the big tank.
Female guppies get chubby. When that happens, they're most likely pregnant. If you see them suddenly become thinner, most likely they gave birth. Guppies have a LOT of babies, so if you don't want to care for them all...you may consider separating the female from the others, and putting her into her own private tank.

Guppies can miscarry. maximum many times that's simply by stress of being moved while they're interior the late tiers of pregancy. on the different hand, that is extremely achieveable that your guppy gave start to healthful infants, however the different fish interior the tank and/or the mummy guppy herself ate all of them. If this happened, you may desire to nevertheless detect some fry that controlled to conceal.

a miscarriage would leave egg like looking fry - you can see their eyes .
if you see the mother to be looking for a plae to hide and seems a bit jolted it would be wise and put them in a breeding tank.
