Heartburn usually doesn't occur until much later in pregnancy, I don't think it is a symptom of pregnancy.

I'm a mother of four and I always had severe heartburn from very early in my pregnancies through to the very end. As a matter of fact - it was the heartburn that sent me out for the pregnancy test for my last two pregnancies as I rarely have heartburn at any other time. :) I did not technically suffer from classic 'morning sickness' but instead suffered all night and every night from heartburn. Yay!

So, yes - in my experience - heartburn can be a pregnancy symptom even very early on.

Not in the beginning...heartburn tends to come in your 2nd or 3rd trimester. The symptoms to look for if you think you're pregnant are missed period, sore breasts, exhaustion even after you've had a good night's sleep, and nausea. Only way to know for sure is to take an EPT or go to your Ob-Gyn. They make the pregnancy tests very accurate now, so I'd try the EPT first.

Some of the most common pregnancy symptoms:

1. Swollen and tender breasts
Soreness or tingling in breasts is one of pregnancy?s most common symptoms.
2. Darkening areolas
For many women, hormones can cause the areolas, the circles around nipples, to widen and darken during pregnancy.
3. Spotting
About five to 10 days after conception, some women notice light spotting when the embryo implants in the uterus.
4. Urinary frequency or constipation
When you?re pregnant, your uterus presses directly on the bladder leading to more frequent urination.
5. Fatigue
Many women feel very tired early in pregnancy (it takes lots of energy to create a baby!).
6. Nausea
Nausea is one of the most common side effects of pregnancy.
7. Smell Sensitivity
No, the smells on the bus are not in your head: Many women have a heightened sense of smell during pregnancy.
8. Elevated basal temperature
If you?ve been tracking your basal temperature, a positive sign of pregnancy is an increase of about one degree that lasts for more than two weeks after the ?dip? in temperature that indicates ovulation.
9. Missing period
The most obvious indicator of pregnancy is a missed period, but a missed period doesn?t always mean a baby is on the way.
10. Unusual hunger or cravings
Pregnant bodies are working hard to grow that baby, and need about 300 extra calories a day.
11. Headaches
The frequency of migraine headaches can increase with pregnancy.
12. Mood swings
Many women experience emotional mood swings throughout pregnancy.
13. Feeling faint or dizzy
Shifting hormones, combined with the heart beating faster to pump more blood through the body can cause blood pressure to gradually decrease early in pregnancy.
14. Metallic taste in your mouth
Some women complain of an odd ?metallic? taste in their mouths during pregnancy.
15. Vivid dreams
Dreams during pregnancy often intensify. So if your dreamin? has become more dramatic this could be a symptom you?re expecting.

Yes. My first two signs were heartburn and peeing a lot. These go away after first trimester and the come back again in the third. The people who said that it only happens in the end because of baby pushing up are only partially right. That is why you get heartburn in the end. In the beginning it is because of the hormone (I think that it is called relaxin) that is released during the st part of your pregnancy. This relaxes the opening to your stomach as well as the muscles around your esophogus, causing the acid from your stomach to travel up.

I had bad heartburn with my second child. I kept getting told that an old wives tale meant it was going to be born with a lot of hair, and she was. It does not mean you are pregnamt if you are getting heartburn. Some foods can cause heartburn or there can be other reasons for it. Go to the doctor for a pregnancy test to be sure.

I don't know if it is a symptom of early pregnancy.... but my sister did have heartburn (very severe) in her pregnancies. It was worst towards the end though.

I had monster heartburn my last 2 trimesters, but heartburn alone isn't a symptom of pregnancy in and of itself.

Not at the beginning, no.

Skipping a menstrual period is a symptom of pregnancy.
