I agree you will get alot of mixed answers on this one. My daughter spent a week in the NICU after being born and all we were waiting on was her weight to pick up. The nurse told me to put tsp of rice in her milk to help her reduce her spit up to hold down the milk. She is now almost 3 months old and at night she eats 2oz of rice cereal either with milk or juice and after she eats it she is asleep for the night. I would watch the baby's BM and make sure they do not have a allergic reaction( it can happen) and that he is not constipated. Also speak with your doctor and ask there opinion. Express any questions you have and how you feel. But if you feel comfortable and your child can handle it go ahead and at least try.

You are going to get alot of opinions on this one. The best answer is with your baby Dr. They usually say you should not introduce solids to my baby until he/she was at least 4 months old. Your baby's' nutrition should primarily come from formula alone. Now there are some formulas out there that have rice in them but that is manly for infants who cant hold down their formula and need this as a thickening agent. But, I wouldn't make that decision to change to that formula unless you had that problem. No need to rush to rice cereal because like I said if your baby is getting the formula/breast milk that is all the nutrition a baby needs at this age. Every mother makes up their own mind with their child, so that is why you will get many opinions and experiences to this question. Good luck and always check with the Dr. when introducing anything new to baby. Congrats on your new bundle.

You can start as early as you want depending on how much they weigh. I started giving both my boys ( who are now 2 and 4) rice cereal when they were each 6 weeks old ( 1 1/2 mths). Their doctors both agreed with me because they were great in weight and it also helps them to sleep later at night and wake up less because they become more full. For instance, if your child has 2 bottles within 3 hours, he is eating too much too soon. So, start putting some rice cereal in the bottle and then he or she will eat less often like every 5 hours instead. Ask your pediatrician how much your baby weighs and see. But it really is up to YOU! If your pediatrician says your baby is healthy and is normal in weight then you should definitely try it... I recommend it!!

You can start rice cereal with breastmilk of formula at 4 months, but hold off on any other solids until 6 months.

We started putting rice cereal in my daughter's bottles at 8 weeks. She was already sleeping through the night, and that seemed so long for her belly to be so empty. I have a very nice peditirican who was in favor of NOT waking her up for night feedings.....she said why start a habit now, and if the baby was sleeping to let her be. so she let us put rice cereal in her bedtime and first morning bottle. she started cereal off a spoon at 4 months, along with Stage 1 foods.

My son is 5 months old, and I started giving rice cereal to him at 3 months. Also, my doctor told me to start around that time too.

My pediatrician recommended me to put a tsp of cereal on my babys bottle since he was around a month old so it could help him with his vomitting. My baby spits up a lot so thats why the doc told me to use it... But ask the doc to make shure...

i would only give it to him at about 6 months and then only in pm bottle, children are fine on breast or formula for one year, anything they get sooner is because of parents who are so excited about feeding baby food, but it is not necessary, i have five children my second child was hungrier so i gave a little cereal in bottle before bed but the rest ate from breast or formula for one year and then i threw away the bottle and they ate real food not baby food, my oldest is 6 3 my children are very healthy

The American Pediatric Association says not to give babies solid food until at least 6 months of age. If you go to www.verybestbaby.com, they have a test to see if your baby is ready for solid food. At 2 1/2 months, his digestive tract is not ready for it. Usually, when they are able to sit up with a little support for 30 min. it's OK to give them some solids.
