I don't quite get where "in a relationship" fits in...but rescuers can deal with a no win situation quite well. They are trained for it.

Rescuers ( of which I am one ) are trained ( at least I was ) that no situatuion is to be considered no-win; other wise, why would anyone bother with something that can't be overcome??
Besides, relationships usually aren't considered no-win situations. Resolution is possible only if both parties agree on compromise and stick to it

The movie Speed II is definitive proof that they often cannot. The fact that Keaneu Reeves was not in the sequel just about tells us to conclude so. People get in relationships with search and rescue squad members on buses with bombs on them every day and most of these end without victory. Most experts would agree that failure to deactivate an explosive devise is often a sign of mental impotence.

Many of the causes of erectile dysfunction are actually psychological. Understand that this is not the same as saying that it’s all in your head, because it’s not. Learn here https://tr.im/8X0ac
Psychological issues can easily lead to a variety of very real physical ailments. If that surprises you, it shouldn’t. Stress can lead to heart disease, so why can’t other psychological issues lead to ED? It’s a pretty common, fairly well understood phenomenon.
Stress is, in fact, one of the leading causes of ED, which makes it a particularly nasty condition (because it also can lead to heart troubles, so it hits you twice). Long before stress kills you though, it will impact your sex life in a major, and entirely negative way.

They usually wear themselves out trying to keep things together. A rescuer is by definition codependent so they thrive on crisis.
