I assume you are speaking of a sexual relationship. If not, there is absolutely nothing wrong with a 22 year old befriending a 17 year old.
Two women cannot physically have sexual intercourse as defined by California law. Therefore, this could not be charged as unlawful sexual intercourse (which, due to the age difference, would be a crime chargable as either a misdemeanor or a felony). (Penal Code section 261.5, subd. (c).)
However, a weirdness of California law is that oral copulation of a person under 18 is an offense (also chargable as a felony or a misdemeanor) even if consensual. Note that although there is a statutory requirement of registration as a sex offender, the California Supreme Court recently struck that down as unconstitutional when the relationship is consensual.
Is it likely that a prosecution would occur under this statute? Probably not, especially since if both parties keep their mouths shut (so to speak) it would be all but impossible to prove. But there certainly is a substantial down-side risk from engaging in that particular form of conduct. Others are available. For example, the statute prohibiting penetration by a foreign object (including fingers), Penal Code section 264.1, is not violated by consensual conduct.

Find out the age of concent. I would assume that since there's only a 5 year age gap that there shouldn't be any probs, but it really depends on the 17 year old's parents. My advice is to tough it out until she turns 18. There would be nothing anyone could do.
