I plan to hire a family size vehicle (or a 4WD) in Delhi and Mumbai to move around. Need to know what it'll cost including the driver and fuel? Any idea anyone? A ballpark figure per day should suffice? Who to go to for hiring also?

In Delhi/NCR, the rates for some of the car models would be approx as given below:

(Given in format:
[CarModel(s) - Rate for 8 hours or 80 km - Extra hour - Extra km])

Ford Ikon, Esteem, Toyota Qualis - 1450 - 60 - 13
Lancer - 1800 - 100 - 18
Toyota Corolla - 2700 - 200 - 25

So, for example, if you rent a Corolla, it will cost you Rs 2700 for 8 hours or 80 km (whichever happens first). If you exceed the time (of 8 hrs) but not the kms, you will be charged Rs 60 per hour after 8 hrs. If you exceed the distance (of 80 km) but not the time, you will be charged Rs 13 per km extra. If you exceed both you will be charged extra for both time and km. If you exceed neither, you still have to pay Rs 2700. You can also rent it for 4 hrs/40km at approx 60% of the 8hr/80km rate. The rates includes driver and fuel.

If you want to hire it from a professional company, one good option is http://www.carzonrent.com/ who are Licensee of Hertz for India. You can get a quote and book online. Other options are:
Avis: http://www.avis.co.in/
Orix: http://www.orixindia.com/
AutoRiders: http://www.autoriders.net/
Travel House: http://www.travelhouseindia.com/

There are numerous local car rental shops which may charge less but you will have to compromise on driver quality, vehicle condition, and quality of service.

Hiii, there are many travel agencies who hire out vehicles both at Delhi and Mumbai. The rates vary and approximately it would be around Rs1500/- for 10hours and 100kms travel. Any travel over 100kms within this 10 hours will be charged at Rs 13/- per km.
You could also get cars such as Ikon/Accent etc at Rs 1200/- for 10 hrs.
But then you are the best judge of what you want.... I have just given you some idea of the cost.... have fun

Hey the rates include the fuel and driver cost
