Because Ottawa wanted him to sign a multi-year deal, and he wanted a one year deal, so they had to move him. They should have signed him and and made one last run at the cup with him, but as to why he didn't go to a better team, I guess would have to do with it being a three team trade (Ottawa, San Jose, Chicago) and Ottawa saw what Chicago was getting from San Jose (Tom Preissing and Josh Hennessy) and made the trade sticking Havlat on the Blackhawks. But I agree that he has way to much talent to be where he is.

Nice, well, Havlat, in my opinion, right now is the best player in the NHL. You could easily argue Crosby or anyone, but I agree with you, he is on one of the worst teams. He's doing the best he can, without practically any help. Who knows why he's on such a bad team, I'd really like to see him traded.

He was traded there because the Senators wanted and solid defensemen and he is great, but the Senators already had enough talent to go around. He went to a team that desperately needed an offensive spark and they got one of the best players in the league to give them that spark. It's not his fault that the rest of his team SUCKS!!!

He's a great player. Great hands and super fast skater. Doesn't have a lot of weight on his frame for his size. As a result combined with his daredevil skating style leaves himself prone to frequent injuries.
He's there as a victim of the salary cap. Ottawa would have loved to keep him and Chara and Redden and Spezza and Pothier. Signing Gerber turned out to be a bomb.

Havlat is a very good player, but has some trouble with injuries. He is unrated at times and even overrated at times.

There's plenty like this.. to name few, 1 is in the questionable side because of injuries, is players like.. Alexander Ovechkin, Simon Gagne, Peter Forsberg.. questionable because of injuries, and Rick Nash, who is having a decent season, but has a lot of talent.

he wont be for long, the trade deadline will be here in a little more than two weeks, and he'll be out of chicago. the great play he made to score that goal on saturday ensured the fact that he's gone
