I play both games too! With the advent of the internet it is much easier to find opponents in both "Go" and "Chess" as well as "Xiangqi" Chinese version of "Chess".

Go is a great game because the object is not necessarily to kill your opponent. Your trying to control territory, to influence the board by the positioning of your stones. If you get too greedy or aggressive could easily lead you disaster just as easy as if you play too conservatively.

European Chess a classic game of strategy. The object being to capture the King, using specialized pieces that have unique movements.

Xiangqi is a Chinese version of Chess, there are so many similarities to European Chess that they have to be related in origin. The exception of a river that divides the board, and some pieces are restricted from crossing the river, and a cannon piece that can only attack by leaping frogging over another piece.

All great games! I can't pick one over the other... each one exercises the mind in it's own unique way. To be really good at using this mental exercise is not to limit your self to one type of game... In our every day lives one solution does not fit all problems, nor does the process of finding a solution require one way of thinking!

I'm an avid chess player who almost switched over to Go. Go is a fantastic game, with a lot of beauty to it. There are many complex strategies having to do with space. Chess is much more confined and has less options in the beginning. There are more tactics in chess and strategy has to be extremely concrete. I swayed for awhile but realized that chess is simply more fun. It is played by more people than Go, even though Go has been around longer. Go is more like a war and chess is like a battle.

Overall, chess keeps my attention and after 15 years I still love playing it!

They're both great games. I'm a chess player myself, but I can't denigrate go. Anything computers have not yet solved should keep you busy until you're not able to play games no more.

Go has simpler rules, is harder to master, can adjust it's scoring to compensate for who moves first, is easier to handicap, and can be played on a smaller board without drmatically changing the game.

And Nothing against Chess.
