It seems as though this world would be a better place if everyone were deaf.

I think that humans are highly inventive, and would have implemented a sophisticated type of sign language. Everyone would end up arguing with their hands, but on the bright side NO ONE would have ever been subjected to the noise pollution that is "Fran Drescher"!

Suppose you lived, say 70,000 years ago.

There you are, showing your son how to make a tool.

If you have only sign language, you can't "talk" and show him at the same time.

Also, with signing, you have to look at the person you're conversing with. With sound, you can look anywhere.

I know what you mean about Fran whatsis, but, then, there are people with beautiful voices -- and what about singing?

Once I went with a friend to a performance for deaf kids.

It was really interesting before the show, as most of the people were signing.

There was very little noise, but conversations going on all over, including people "shouting" across the room to each other (using really big gestures and signs).

Interesting experience from decades ago that I've never forgotten.

No. People speak to each other to get relieved from their thoughts & feelings. If eaveryone were deaf the world would have been in a blasting situation instead of better place.

That's what life is all about, our relationships with each other. The world will be a better place when some people start realizing that everything isn't me, me,me.

I don't know. I rarely speak, and I find that most people who speak hardly ever have something relevant to say.
