Because the DS Lite is better than the PSP.
DS has more original games, while the PSP has nothing more than spin-offs of PS2 games.
The touchscreen is better than what the PSP has to offer.
Portable gaming is about short quick games that you can play while on the go. PSP games are long, and it takes a while to get anything done.
Who cares if the PSP can play music, movies, etc. I have an iPod, and it's more portable than the PSP.
Why should I pay 10 bucks more for a UMD movie when the UMD movie isn't as good as a DVD movie.

The ds lite has many great things about it that the psp doesnt have. Here is the list:
-slim shiny design, takes after the ipod
-two screens for ultimate gaming experience
-touch screen for more interactive play and new kinds of play than never before. This feature is very fun and new.
-few buttons, easy to work and self explanitory
-Huge library of games for ALL ages. Not just violent games
-you can access the internet through an add on web browser. You even use the touch screen to navigate which makes surfing the web much easier.
-you can add on a device which allows you to play music, movies and pictures. For an inexpensive price.
-great graphics
-way cheaper price than the psp, and cheaper games than psp games
Overall, the ds is a great well rounded system that can be used for people of all ages. Small children will be able to understand how to use it, play games for their age group. Teens and older kids can play games for their age group and find it very appealing and high tech, not a kiddy device. Adults can even play it, there are games for their age group as well and the system is easy to use and easy for on the go traveling (for work ect.) Basically this system not only appeals to the older teens but to most age groups including adults, and small children. Unlike the psp which has violent games, a ton of buttons and difficult to understand. And it doesnt have a touch screen which makes it harder to navigate certain things like internet.
I hope this gave you some solid reasons why some people say the ds lite is better than the psp. good luck and good bye.

DS Lite you can touch it with that pen they give you. Pretty cool, and makes the game more fun. But for me, I prefer Playstation Portable because of better graphics, movies, and free games if you hack into it.

DS Lite has a wide variety of games. The PSP doesn't have games developed specifically for it or for the portable platform. Portable gaming is a different experience. Simply porting PS2 games to the PSP isn't very exciting to me. Nintendo always had a different design philosophy when it comes to games, emphasizing fun. If the PSP had more PSP specific content, it might be more fun. For example can you imagine an application like Brain Age for the PSP?

Yet in one fell swoop Nintendo has expanded it's market to aging Baby Boomers trying to keep their minds young!

Because it is their right's as individuals to voice their opinions. But the reality is, no system or console is better than any other. Those who say otherwise are either fanboys/fangirls or complete idiots.
Now to defend the DSLite;
The DSLite has a wide library of games. Not just "kiddie ones." Besides, I, and you, shouldn't care if the games seem childish, the only thing that should matter is if the games are fun or not.
Since you seem to be biased towards the PSP, I won't list it's high notes. I'm sure you already know. ;P

I personally disagree with that assertion, but the DS does have a lot of great games. While the PSP has amazing multimedia features, and fantastic 3D games (MGS, Syphon Filter, Daxter, Ratchet and Clank, Grand Theft Auto), the DS has some great games too like Brain Age and Mario. The DS appeals to the whole family, and is more like the "classic" handheld games.

Better game library. Nintendo make better portable games. Short and fun. A game you can play while on the car or buss for quick entertainment. Bigger better games should be left for consoles where people have the time and comfort.

I don't know why people say that..I have a DS and a PSP and the PSP kicks the DS' a-s-s. And you are right, the DS only has kiddie games, I told someone that earlier today. Plus, you can't listen to music, watch movies, go online, and such and such. And not to mention the graphics suck.
