I don't have a warranty on it. I hope it doesn't stay like this forever

It's possible it needs to be charged. Plug it into your computer and see what happens. If it starts charging, you're fine. Leave it alone for a little while and then try again. Even if it is charged, sometimes plugging them into the computer resets them enough that they start working. If you plug it into your computer and nothing happens, the first thing you should try to do is reset the ipod. Toggle the hold button on and off a few times, then with the hold button off, press and hold the Menu and Center buttons for about 10 seconds. You should see the screen blink as it resets itself. You can also download the ipod updater from apple.com and restore the ipod to factory basics when it's connected to your computer. If all else fails, go to an Apple store. They'll fix it =) Good luck!

My Nano does that me often; if you have a warranty, take it back to the store (or you may have to ship it to Apple) and they may replace the battery or even the whole thing for you.

Unfortunately, I don't have a warranty so I have to deal with it's temperament.

flick hold button back and forth about four times, then hold down the middle button and the play button at the same time, if it works the apple will display in the screen.
