my nephew has seen 3 tours of Iraq and said that IF the guys were allowed to do their jobs, we could've been home 2 years ago. What do you think?

You underestimate the Replies of the Repugs. They will say that Clinton went over there personally and stretch both arms out sideways from his body.

Without a doubt. We are the strongest military might on the planet. We could level the entire country in thirty min. the problem is that they know we wont because we are to busy kissing the butts of everybody else. The only way to stop or beat crazy is to be even more crazy and brutal. Americans don't have the stomach for that anymore. I.E. dropping the bomb on the civilian Japan city's.

When Bush came down off that aircraft carrier our troops should have been home within the week. They hung Saddam, the rest is insanity, but as long as Bush and Cheney can continue to steal tax dollars under the guise of funding the troops, American's will continue to die. My prayers go out to you nephew, he's a true American hero and he has all our gratitude.

Not exactly. War is a matter of politics with weapons, and the shooting part often has to be subordinate to the political part, especially in fourth-generation warfare. The big problem seems to me to be that few understand the difference between fourth-generation wars and the second- and third-generation fights that we understand so much better, and it's hard to judge a war if you don't know what kind of war you're fighting.

Yup, we have a modern day LBJ in the White House fighting a PC war, just as we did in Vietnam. By the way, you should read this:

I'm pretty sure that your nephew really has no concept of what it takes to "win the war". War is not like playing a game of battleship where there is a clearly defined path to success and a little self contained box in which to play in.

His job is to follow orders; not interpret them. Correct him on that, the next time you talk.

He could be right. I believe we were more involved in being caretakers and in building infrastructure, rather than launching an offensive more often.

We haven't done enough searching for and destroying terrorists, which, in my mind, is what we should be doing. That might result in more casualties, and no one wanted that.

Absolutely. Get the politicians involved and everything gets mucked up. Anyone up for some nationalized healthcare?

I have heard stories (from a soldier) that he was being fired upon, but he was not allowed to fire back until he got the command to. So there are stupid decisions being made all the time.
