Correction to above answer. Blue whales are thought to be the largest animal ever to inhabit the planet, by about 50 tons superiority in weight.

The biggest mammal on Earth, even the biggest CRITTER currently (Dinosaurs were bigger) - Here is a link to the Wikipedia article on it that includes a graphic showing a human next to big Blue.

They're about 26m long and 150 tons on average.
