Hi. The above answers MAY be right about the possibility of damage, but an LED (such as your case light) is a diode and should only pass current one way. As explained, make sure you eliminate static. Your motherboard manual will explain the beeps meaning to you.

just by plugging in an led, no you can't mess it up. the led will only work one way when plugged into a power source, and if it did get power it would light and that's it. if you were plugging something other than an led in then you can damage the board. did you pull jumpers off thinking the pins were just extra plug-ins. this is what sounds like you did or you pulled jumpers off the cmos or the clock speed settings jumpers. check for a manual for the board, then check to make sure all jumpers are in the default locations or settings.

Is it a long beep...?
One long beep is represented as bad / missing / damaged Ram.
This may be the problem.

Also be careful of static charge when handling your motherboard.
Always touch an earthed metal pipe before handling electronic components to reduce charge "fire".

The answer is however yes you can.

One method to try is...
Adding a component one at a time with a power supply, and study where each component goes.

YES. Unplug all of the devices except those needed to get your computer up and running. After your computer is running with a minimum configuration, then try installing each added device one at a time until everything is running or until the computer stops working again.
