Valentine broke away from the religion forced upon people by the Emperor. The Emperor was the only authority of the time, who could agree to let people get married. Valentine secretly began to marry people and when the Emperor found out had him imprisoned. He began writing to a woman who took pity on him and before he died? was executed? he signed his last letter to her "Your Valentine."
