I agree with Bam there are a lot tougher standards to get into Notre Dame let alone to play football there I think they even raised the GPA to a 3.5 just to play ball which is when they didn't get as many great recruits. Notre Dame is more prestigious than most school but a lot of good football players aren't smart enough to get in, let alone smart enough to play on the football team.

Notre Dame can be a contender, simply because of their coaching and their future star QB Jimmy Clausen. He was the number one rated player, and he has an arm like Peyton Manning's. He might not start his freshman year, but if he stays for 4 years he could definitely take the Irish to a national championship.

they need to lower academic standards...and their main recruiting competition is USC, if you were a high school recruit where would go? to USC in california where there are a lot of good looking women, great weather, the beach ,and a schoool whose football team has lost 4 games in the last 3 years,...or to notre dame where it is cold, and they cannot buy a bowl win

Give 'em a couple years. They just signed that Clausen kid from California. He was one of the top 5 prep QBs in the nation. Charlie Weis knows what he's doing. They'll be a contender.

They wont win another one unless they lower the academic standards. It sounds bad but, it is definitly true. The best athletes are just that, athletes, some of them are good academically but for the Irish to be dominant again, they are going to need to snag the Calvin Johnsons and the Dwaye Jarretts of the world.

Yes, they will...in the next four years...because they have the best QB in the country coming in next season, (and as someone noted, as a matter of fact the next Joe Montana, if there ever was one,) Jimmy Clausen...

they will, they just need to do a lot of recruiting in texas. texas and florida have the best skill position players (vince young, ladanian tomlinson, etc.) and have more national top 100 recruits than any other state. they also need to make that defense a little better
