We can no longer buy our family out of purgatory.
We can no longer bet baptised for a dead family member.
The church uses different ways than these above to get our money now. Persuasion of laying up treasure in heaven, not reward to dead family.
Not praying to Mary or Saints was a great step too...idolatry is a sin. Why pray to them when you can pray through the Holy Spirit staright to God in the name of Jesus?

Lack of respect for authority|
The whole Protestant principle is based upon a proud *independence and individualism,* as they cut from the Pope who is the Rock on which Jesus built His Church|
Without a unified *Pole Star,* it is up to each individual to interpret Scripture on his own|
What the result is, is an incoherent babble of mutually contradictory interpretations|
We can see this in the 35, 000 Protestant denominations that exist today, all claiming to be following only the Bible, yet contradicting each other on numerous points|
Division is the essence of Protestantism, as even from the very beginning, Luther disagreed with Calvin, who disagreed with Zwingli| Then it split and split from there|
Protestants claim to have rejected the papacy, when in fact they have done no such thing|
There are as many popes as there are leaders of denominations and Churches|
For theoretically, Protestants claim that each individual is to read and interpret Scripture on his own, but what happens in realty is that the head of a particular Church is the interpreter, and everyone in that Church is to follow his line|
Of course if someone disagrees, he ups and leaves with those who agree with him, and start their own church| See, here we are back to the old division principle again|
