Hmmm...... good question... I think both have impact on the result. Personality would play the larger part because even if it was "law" to smile and converse with strangers, an introvert or shy person would have diffculty or may even risk "arrest" and NOT do it because it would not be natural or comfortable....

I'm sorry to say this, but if you didn't look to be from my age group (high-school age) then I would probably assume you were some creepy pedofile looking for a kid to abduct. Anyone around my age, i'd be fine with having a friendly conversation. But, I believe that because of the world's paranoia about rapists, criminals, and 'bad people', it would be tough to just have a friendly conversation with some random old dude out on the street. I guess it's partly to do with my personality as well. I'm usually suspicious of people, and more skeptical than I should be, even for a realist.

It would depended on what you were chatting about and what you look like. I mean if you are a boy, and physically attractive, I would probably carry on your conversation. Or if you said something witty to make me laugh. But if you came up to me, and acted a little weird, and you came off pervy or annoying, I would probably walk away. Society wouldn't affect my actions unless you looked like a gang banger or something. Then more than likely I would be a little scared. If you want to continue to chat, than you better have a good personality. I am not going to talk to someone who is boring as a board.

It would be the environment that would detemine my reaction. On a dark street on the rough side of town. I'd would be a lousy coversationlist, trying to encourage you to leave. At a party, I would respond in a friendly way. If I was busy, I'd send you on your way.

I would have to say that it is the heart. If you come up to me and begin a conversation and my heart is not right, I might blow you off. It doesn't matter what our culture might say about you and I (If you are a punk and I am a prep). If my heart is right I can see past whatever is on the outside and that my desire is to know others I will continue the conversation, maybe even ask you to get coffee and continue.....

As a schizoid personality type, I would treat you with the same indifference I treat anybody else with; unless you were actually saying something of scientific interest.
