Are you a US citizen? If yes, you will not require sponsorship for a VISA. They are referring to a work VISA.

If you don't know, you won't.

Basically, the question applies to non-US citizens who may be here on a work visa. They must have an employer "sponsor" them to be in the country. As a general rule, employers prefer to employ those that don't require sponsorship.

If you are not a US Citizen, the Immigration and Naturalization Service may require that, in order to stay in the US, you have a sponsor (employer) while you are here.

If you are a US citizen, don't worry about it. Just answer "no".
