African American scientist or inventor?

i have a report for black history month and i cant think of a African American scientist or inventor for my project.i resaly need help on this so plz tell me there full name and what they did or what did they invent. ty for all how will respond.they must me and African American SCIENTIST OR INVENTOR!!!!!!!!

i like your idea of gorge washington carver but this was the thing i didnt want.i dont want realfamous poeple that i will study about i want someone that was shunned out of science but still made something great. i want someone that doesent get that much attention for waht great wook they did you know that type of people but i still wantanything that comes to your guys minds

one reason i dont want really really famous people is that most of the friends are already doing poeple like that. but still like i said i just want to know what African American scientist or inventor that you thought was great

2. George Washington Carver- found 300 things to do from a peanut, irrigation system

3.Dr. Charles Richard Drew
Drew was the first person to develop the blood bank

4.Joseph Winters
Patented the fire escape ladder

5.Doctor Daniel Hale Williams
Doctor Daniel Hale Williams was a pioneer in open heart surgery

6.James Edward West
holds 47 U.S. and more than 200 foreign patents on microphones and techniques for making polymer foil-electrets

7. Rufus Stokes
invented a exhaust purifier and an air pollution control device

8.Thomas Stewart
Stewart invented an improved mop, metal bender, and railroad crossing

9.Garrett Morgan
Morgan invented a gas mask, a traffic signal, and several other inventions


This is just a few. The list goes on. Many African Americans have contribute to the shaping of our world. Another inventor is
NASA engineer Jerry Shelby who invented an engine protection system for a recoverable rocket booster. There are just too many to name.

you know it's a shame these schools don't teach the history of blacks all year round like they do whites, it just amazes me how this country's primary means of civilization or economic growth was dependent upon 2-300 years of unpaid labor and everywhere else for that matter only to be mentioned and chopped up to one page while the people who enslaved, tortured , boiled and split up families have the most dominant stance in history Black inventors or scientists can be found on about.com or even just googling will work , I'm sure you'll be amazed at the vastness of what you find. good luck and don't look at it just as Black history although it is look at it and appreciate these people for who they are and what it is that they have contributed to this country and other countries all over!

A contemporary Scientist would be the Astrophysicist Neal deGrasse Tyson. He is the director of the Hayden Planetarium, Guest lecturer at Harvard, Yale and Columbia Universities and frequently hosts the Nova series on t.v. Another would a black gentleman by the last name of McCoy, he invented train air brakes and automatic train couplers. "The real McCoy" is a saying attributed to him which means the real thing in reference to his inventions.
