Bush is in a state of denial about these facts.
Too many Americans are being squeezed by stagnant incomes and rising living expenses and somehow the president's tax cuts are supposed to ease the pain. The nonpartisan Tax Policy Center estimates that this year, the dividends and capital gains tax cut will save middle-income families only about $55 -- about the price of one tank of gas for most minivan drivers. But millionaires will receive a cut of nearly $38,000 -- enough to buy a new luxury sedan.
The policies of Bush and the Republican majority simply did not address the problems of families trying to maintain a middle-class way of life, and they certainly were not addressing the problems of working families trying to make it into the middle class.
A recent CNN poll found that 54 percent of Americans believe it is impossible for most people to achieve the American dream. But if you work hard and play by the rules, you should share in the growing economy.
Democrats want to create an economic environment that produces better jobs with better pay, raises the minimum wage, makes health care and college more affordable, cuts middle-income taxes, guarantees a dignified retirement for our seniors, moves the nation toward energy independence, and restores fiscal responsibility.
To restore the American dream and to provide economic security and opportunity for all, we need a new direction in policy that addresses the real problems of real people and creates an economy that works for all Americans.

No. The middle class received tax cuts just like the rich. While the Republicans "court the rich" they also court all hardworking Americans. The left simply placates the poor while "courting the rich." The rich pays the bills but don't make up enough of the population for either party to only attempt to satisfy the needs of the wealthy.

To be honest I think the "working poor" are the most ignored class in society. The people who work and receive no welfare benefits, have no health coverage and support a family. Actually I hear politicians talking about the middle class quite a bit.

The rich get richer off the middle class and blame the middle class's shortfall on the poor, which leaves the middle class fighting with the poor over crumbs.

I think the middle class is left to fend for itself in a lot of ways. Politics as welll as other things. Think about college for instance, the upper class can afford to pay for their children to go to college and the lower class has many options in the forms of financial aid(grants, need-based scholarships, work-studies) that are out of reach to the middle class. Maybe we need a "middle of the road" political party!

I don't see how the middle class has been ignored under Bush. We have had three different types of tax credits with the Bush administration.
Let's face it, we are the easiest to ignore. We are busy working and raising families. We have the least spare time and the least spare change.
The poor have huge non-profit organizations fighting for them, and the wealthy, have well, their money fighting for them.

The middle class is very important to them. That's where they get all their money from. (Note the sarcasm. lol.)
