Yes, I agree. I hate it when people are so intent on putting others down for their name choices. I mean, if it isn't your kid, why the heck should it matter what they name their child? If you hate the name, don't use it!

It is sad when people use such an excuse as not liking a baby name to resort to immature name calling. If you don't like the name suggested that's one thing, just say so and move on, or be constructive and suggest something different, that still fits in with the parameters of the parents' wishes about the name, but resorting to name calling and insults is unnecessary in any regard.

I feel ya. I think that Y/A baby names is like a place to ask how people feel about certain names, w/o being judged. Kinda like a family. I am not pg but I like to see all the interesting names that people have chosen for their babies. If people want to spell their baby names differently that's their business, I might point out why I don't like it, but I try not to attack them for their choices.

i agree i have stopped asking people's opinion on baby names because people were saying all sorts of things about the names i chose. You do have the few nice people that say nice things and even the one's who dont like the names but suggest others in a friendly manner, but then you have complete idiots who just put sh*t on the names you like.I thought about it though and honestly even in a family you have some people who like the names and some who dont so you have to expect on here people from all over the world will have very different opinions most are stupid opinions but if we dont ask them they wont tell us so just dont worry about what people say and definatly dont let complete strangers comments get to you.

Everyone has an opinion on that kind of thing regarding baby names and I don't understand why. Just as long as you like the name thats all that should matter. Best of Luck!

If you're talking about made-up African American names, a lot of times people will advise you not to do that to your child because you will engender automatic discrimination that the child will have to endure because you gave him that stupid made-up name. Working in human resources, I can tell you that when a company does not want to hire AA's they just throw the applications with the funny names in the round file. It's a foolish and selfish thing to stick a child with more hardship than he/she would ordinarily have to face. Don't let your only accomplishment in life be giving your child a strange name that nobody else has. If he/she is a minority in this country, he/she has enough going against him without his/her own parent adding to the mess.

I feel the same way I liked the name Bliss, but everyone said it was a stripper or hooker name. It hurt, but I suppose it is why we ask. The way I see it is: I'd rather hear hurtful things on here from strangers, than to hear it later from people when they hear my little girl's name.

are you talking about in "real life" or on yahoo answers?

if you are talking about real life, i find the best bet is to keep the name a secret till the baby is born. after the baby is named you won't hear many negative comments. :)

as for yahoo answers, this is a place to ask for suggestions and opinions SO if you have your mind made up then don't post the question.
you are asking for honest answers!

take care,
