I am a certified HP technician, so I can say this:

What is the model of your computer? Go to the HP web site and type the model number of your computer into the search field. Select "drivers".

However, before you go through the trouble of searching the device driver database, you will want to see if HP is supporting the installation of VISTA on your model of HP computer.

If HP does not support the installation of VISTA on your computer, you are out of luck in getting the audio chip-set working on your computer. You might be able to get a third-party sound card from Creative Labs to work. Otherwise, you will need to go back to whatever Windows version you were using before.

Did you check the device driver?

To open Device Manager
click Start,
point to Settings,
and then click Control Panel.
Double-click System.
On the Hardware tab,
click Device Manager.
right-cl on the device
select Properties
it should tell you whether or not the device is working.
You can also update the driver from here.

The updated drivers for Vista are on the HP website.
Have you done an update with Vista ... that would fix it.
