Do you need to set a digital camera with a setup disk on your pc. I want to get a digital camera and load the images onto my computer with a usb cable, instead of printing them at a shop. My disk drive doesn't work on my computer, I can't load any disks, which is annoying. So can I still load the images without having a setup disk for my pc?

Many digital cameras will plug in to a USB port and your computer will see it as another drive. Also, if you have an internet connection, you can directly download the camera's software from the manufacturer's website without using a CD.

If you have windows XP, you should be able to download them without any additional software. If you have an older version of windows like ME , I dont think it will do it without getting a card reader and having the software for it. ( i am not sure about this though)

Anyway go and buy a "card reader" ( it is much easier this way anyway) which you should be able to find at a computer part shop fairly cheap and just take the disc out of the camera and slide it in. Card readers come with software that will allow this. it is quite easy once you get the hang of it, just read the instructions in the card reader manual.

You don't need to run a disk or have a special program, using a usb cable the computer will read the memory card in your camera as a drive in My Computer. You can copy the photos from there.

It depends completely on what camera you are using. Some cameras work out of the box with out a cd and others don't. The only way to find out is by plugging it in and seeing if you can find the driver. Your best option might be to search for the driver on the web though and install it from there. That way you wont need to use a cd/disk drive.

If you connect your camera using your usb you can transfer the images since your computer will think that your camera's memory stick is a hard drive.
Connect the camera and go to 'my computer and look for it.
Switch them to a file for 'pictures' or wherever you want to put them and 'walla'
also, depending on where you got the camera from
you can download the stuff from the camera makers website

Windows XP might find a driver but youre gonna lose out on any camera software that came with it! There is a way around this however, once you have the camera, go to the cam manufacturers website and download the driver and software. A cdrom drive aint that expensive either!

Yes, Windows can handle the transfer throught the USB cable, no problem. It treats your camera as another drive. It should pop up a window with the choice to "transfer pictures" once it goes through the recognition process the first time you connect. Very simple wizard interface.
