Carson City, Nevada is very near Lake Tahoe, and southwest the corner of the state. Carson City is slightly east of 120º west longitude and slightly north of 39º north latitude. Those coordinates (120, 39) is actually inside the southern end of Lake Tahoe.
California and Nevada share Lake Tahoe.
Salt Lake City, Utah is slightly east of 112º west longitude and slightly south of 41º north latitude. Salt Lake City is only 15 miles east of the southern end of the Great Salt Lake. A narrow section of that lake reaches to within 12 miles of the city.
Salt Lake City, Utah is much farther north than Carson City, Nevada. In fact, Carson City is much closer to Sacramento, California, being only about 100 miles north northeast. Salt Lake City is about 440 north northeast of Carson City. Also, Salt Lake City, Carson City, and Sacrament appear to be along the same diagonal (very close at least).

live in one been to the other. they are about equal in thier coordinates on a map. the difference is this, higher elevation of slc, n sl maybe by about 16 miles. i read maps for fun.
hint look at a map. I 80 runs pretty straight west and east you can get to either city by a few miles off the interstate.
