You can still suffer from constipation without "feeling" constipated. If you're only going once a week, and are passing big, dry stools, constipation is a likely cause.
Drink plenty of fluids everyday, especially water. Add more fiber to your diet. You can even buy fiber supplements in powder form that you can mix into your water. Also, exercise daily. Even if it's just a casual walk around your neighborhood, get up and move more often. Exercise stimulates peristalsis (digestion and bowel movement).
Certain medical conditions can cause constipation to be chronic (happen frequently). If it persists, see your doctor for some diagnostic tests to find the cause.

OK - first let me say that this is a problem that lots of women have, so take solace in that fact that you are not alone. Second, I agree with the answers above that recommend drinking at least 64oz. of water daily, taking stool softeners, and adding more fiber to your diet... all are excellent suggestions.
You really should try to get a handle on the problem and poop at least once daily, but it's hard to do when you are clogged up. There is this stuff called Colonblow. I'm serious! It works great - and it works fast. It really is best if you use it during at least two days when you can just hang around the house, because it does make you go! I did feel a little weak when I did it, but I did the liquid only version and it made me tired.
I don't have any association with the company or product, except that I've used it - and I can definately say that it works. I didn't get any cramping or anything like that - I just had to go frequently. So, if you want to clean yourself out, try it. Good luck!

Could be your diet. If there is something you eat several times a week, try slowing down on it. Certain foods you do, or do not eat enough of, can also cause this. Also certain medications have this side effect. Or if you take vitamins and supplements these may also be to blame. There is alot of over the counter meds designed to keep you regular, go to the drug store and read the bottles, or if it is really uncomfortable see a doctor. Above all closely watch what you are putting into your body, that way you know what comes out!

Once a week is very unusual. Normal bowel motions occure once a day or at the extreme once every three days. Less than this could men constipation
I would suggest drinking at least 2 liters of water a day and start a high fiber intake. If this does not fix the problem, you will have to see a Doctor. Have a look at the below web site.

Hi, I actually work for a company that deals with constipation, and we have people call us all the time with this issue. There are a few things that you can do to help your self. If you look at nature, animals have a movement all the time, so what makes us so different from them? It is ideal to have 3-5 movements a day, this would be understood as being "regular". if your finding that your not achieving this, you may think about doing a colon cleanse.
check out this link, it has really good information and should help you.

Sorry you ARE constipated, your bowel is probably lacking the necesarry "bug" flora to digest and move your food onward.
You need 8 glasses of water a day plus a good acidophillus capsule or capsules at each meal. Take 1 tablespoon of lemon juice 10 mintues before meals and try swallowing some olive oil to lubricate the bowel. this is serious and can cause many serious illnesses.
Add fiber to your diet and lots of fresh fruit and vegies. No Bread or dairy until this problem resolves itself

Let me preface this by saying that I have no idea if this is the same as your situation, but when a friend of mine was in her mid-20s, she told me that the only time she could poop was when she was at my house, which was maybe once a week. It was also big. After an episode of rectal bleeding and faintness, she was diagnosed with colon and rectal cancer.
Check with your doctor just to make sure everything is alright.

You probably don't have enough fiber in your diet. If it is hard and hurts, then try a stool softener.
