I'm just not sure if it would become brittle in very cold temperatures..

you can use one but as long as it is on ice. I have been to an outdoor hockey game with real nhl players using vapour xxx's and other sticks. It was minus 28 and only one snapped and it was because it got slahsed bad.

No problem with the materials holding up in that weather. I'd worry more about me getting brittle than my stick.

personally, when I play outdoors, I like to use a wood stick in honor of those that graced the ponds before me.
