It would depend on what type of hurt & how much. If they were only words, turn the other cheek or walk away.
If you beat me with something, even your fist, I may not get you then but I would be back & you better look out! I am very slow to anger, when angry, I am very slow to cool off.
I guess that my answer would be: in certain circumstances, an eye for an eye & a tooth for a tooth, all depending upon the situation.

First, your premise is WRONG. There WERE codified laws long before the times you listed.
Second, an eye for an eye is much older that 630 AD.
Third, turn the other cheek is generally credited to Jesus Christ. The year 1 AD is generally considered to be the year of his birth.
An eye for an eye, refers to the degree of punishment for crimes. Turn the other cheek refers to PERSONAL forgiveness. The two are unrelated issues. I can forgive a criminal for what they did to me while the government still holds them accountable.

It depends on the situation. Usually I will turn the other cheek, But don't push your luck because when I do resort to "a tooth for a tooth", it is more like teeth for a tooth.

The terrorists have been murdering and terrorizing Americans all over the globe since 1979 - and up until the Iraq invasion - we had been turning the other cheek only to get it slapped repeatedly.
An effective response was long overdue.

Depends on the situation as a whole. If I turn the other cheek, maybe it'll embarrass my offender and make him/her realize that what he/she did is wrong. If this is a possibility then I would prefer this than hitting him/her back. Non-violence rules!!
But if unfortunately, it's someone who will never understand or make an effort to understand unless he/she is thrashed, then that's what I would do!!

revenge never ends they build grudges and animosity ,and turn ur soul black what u d to someone to hurt them they will too want to hurt u back and it never ends and that will only bring chaos but turning The other cheek some time walking away from something makes the other person regret and they eventually feel shame and want to fix things , so its best to let things go its better for Ur peace of mind

I TRY to turn the other cheek, but that can be really hard sometimes and it's much easier to fight back. I know God wants me to turn the other cheek, but I'm human, and humans like revenge.

my eyesight is not the greatest so not a good choice, like my teeth the way they are, thank you.
as for cheeks, well i've turned them too many times already so i guess you'd just have to kick one of the others instead, so long as i get a swing in too.
