I heard somewhere that about 80% of people who go into psychology end up commiting suicide after a few years in the business... is this true? if not, then what is the percentage? I'm interested in going into psychology, so I would kinda like to know what I'm getting myself into.

I doubt that it's as high as 80%, but it is the profession with one of the highest suicide rates. However, there is a wide variety of professions in psychology, so you should probably explore the options available before deciding. Clinical psychologists have to listen to people's problems confidentially. This can take a huge emotional toll, no matter how "professional" you are. You will see the worst in people, particularly if you ever have to work in a mental hospital. Again, that is only one of many options - there are school counselors, researchers and even marketing professionals in psychology. These people don't have high suicide rates.

Good luck!

P.S. My dad is a psychiatrist, and I started college as a psychology major. I ended up with a bachelor's in cultural anthropology, and am working on a Ph.D. in entrepreneurship.

As long as you don't diagnose yourself with insanity, I think you will be ok.
