Who is smarter?

One who is purely creative? One who gathers his source from a seemingly dark, primitive unconcious source?

Or one who observes the information and resources around him and extracts what he needs. He copies. And sometimes he develops his own formulas. Still, he is a copy cat and a cheat.

Are both people creative? Is one smarter than the other?

I think you're asking, which has a higher purpose: theory or application? Each would be useless should one exist without the other. In your example, I think both are creative and both have to be smart enough to do their job correctly. An architect (theory)must use applications (health codes, guidelines) to make a blueprint not only aesthetically, but functionally sound. The contractor (application) must use creativity to solve problems (who does what, how and when).

I wouldn't call the application a cheat or copy of the theory, because it's purpose is to translate. In the translation is his creativity.

What is "smart"? I am very creative and have good intuition but it is just the way I am. I can't do math or follow directions. I have good discernment though and understand people. My husband can build really intricate things from nothing. He can fix his car with stuff he finds along the side of the freeway but he is clueless about color, form, or the emotional side of people. I know the builder person THINKS he is smarter, but he is just one kind of smart. Not better, just different. Both are needed.

There are two people, each has an IQ of 160. One is a sculptor, the other is a Doctor. Who is smarter? They both serve humanity. One physically, the other aesthetically. Different applications of intellect. Stalemate.

The smarter is the one who understands what he's doing. Creativeness has nothing to do with intelligence - most artists are actually quite stupid.

Picaso once said that good artists copy, but great artists steal. I think there's a hidden truth in that saying. Creativity is a tool, not a property.

both are equally smart and valid,,,,, using the resources and learned knowledge of others is not a cheat,,,,,we all learn many things by copying, even a very creative person,,,, the base of knowledge passed on to him/her give them the foundation from which to explore on their own,,,, there are different types of intelligence,,,, as it should be,,,we wouldnt want everyone to be the same,,, so we must value the differences

the one who discover but can't construct is nothing
on the other hand, one can't sonstruct if there is no discovery
so each is the complement of the other
both of them are creative
the smartest is the one who can discover and construct by himself
