Aren't Mexicans a mixture of Indian and Spanish? Most of them look Indian to me. Do they think you look like an East Indian or Arab? I dated a Honduran girl once who was really dark and people thought she was Arab. Don't sweat it, dark skin is sexy. But if you just want people to know you are Mexican and not mistake you for an Indian just correct them when they make the mistake. Don't take it as an insult, most of us sheltered white folks don't know the difference between different ethnicities ;-]

Hahahaha...I'm in the same situation. I have been told I look Indian (spoken to by Indian women in their native language), have been asked if my grandparents were Japanese, have been asked if I was part Egyptian, have been told I look Brazilian, etc. Whenever someone asks me if I'm Mexican, I'm actually shocked. LOL On a serious note, people won't know you are Mexican unless you tell them so. My dad who is Mexican told me once he's made a fool of himself on more than one occasion speaking poor English with blond hair-blue eyed people only to realize later they were Mexican! Mexicans are not all short, dark-haired, black eyes, etc.....Mexicans come in all shades/colors and sizes.

You might as well learn to deal with it and kindly and respectfully let people know you are Mexican and not Indian. I have the same problem except for I am Native American and people are always assuming I am Mexican. Yeah I am tired of it too but hey what can you do but let them know the truth. Sorry couldn't be of much help!

I know it's no fun having to justify your heritage to people, but it could definitely be worse, believe me! I'm African-American, Dominican, French, and Irish mixed and people assume I'm Cuban!
Look at the questions as an opportunity to educate people. When people ask you questions about your heritage, proudly tell them that you're Mexican. Keep your head up, girl!
